Lee, Yan Take Home WGA Junior, Boys Titles

REDDING, Conn. (June 13, 2023) – A field of 62 boys and juniors competed for two trophies in the playing of the 78th Westchester Junior Championship and 54th Westchester Boys Championship, Tuesday, at Redding Country Club. Jacob Lee of Rye Brook, N.Y., took home the Junior title with a low score of 2-over 73, while Josh Yan of Newburgh, N.Y., earned the Boys' victory with a 3-over 74.

“I didn't start hitting the ball well until the back nine, but I was just putting myself in a place where I could make up and down or I wasn't making big numbers,” said Lee after his round. “I was just having fun when I played. I think it's way easier to stay playing well when you're having fun.”

Former two-time winner of the Westchester Boys' Championship Harrison Browne of Westport, Conn., finished in second place in the Junior Championship after shooting a 3-over 74 and Michael Asselta of Ramsey, N.J., carded a 4-over 75 for second place in the Boys' Championship, respectively.

The day also served as a sectional qualifier for the 106th Met Junior Championship Sponsored by MetLife and the 55th MGA/MetLife Boys' Championship, which take place at Echo Lake Country Club, July 17-19, and Gardiner's Bay Country Club, July 27-28. The top 13 junior finishers advanced to Echo Lake, while the top five eligible boys competitors aged 15 or under advanced to Gardiner's Bay.
